If you're looking for a good meal, head to Tokyo. The city has been crowned the "world capital of gastronomy" by the prestigious Michelin guide and has 11 three-star restaurants, compared to Paris's ten. Michelin only used Japanese inspectors in the latest edition after Japanese food critics were skeptical of earlier surveys where foreigners had judged traditional local foods. Two thirds of the restaurants awarded three stars were Japanese, while the others served a variety of cuisines.

Travellers to Russia might want to stay away from the street food. A group of cannibals has been arrested for butchering a 25-year-old and selling parts of his corpse to a local kebab shop.

Forget love: Cinderella wants some cash. Seven thousand Chinese women have applied for a spot on a matchmaking cruise that will pair 40 men, worth over $7 million each, with 40 women who are "stringently screened for their looks." The modern day 'Cinderella Ball' is hosted by the Jia Yuan matchmaking service. Anyone who is "kind, gentle and tasteful" can apply, but you have to speak Chinese to navigate the website.

When visiting drive-through safari parks, remember to lock your doors. That's the reminder a South African park has issued to its customers after a lioness popped open the back door of a car that had stopped to admire the wildlife. Fortunately the car's driver was quick to press down on the gas and flee before the large cat clambered in.

A French hotel is hoping to cash in on wealthy hamster lovers whose fascination with their favourite pet didn't die out after puberty. For $150 a night human guests to the Hamster Villa in Nantes, France get to eat hamster food, run around in a giant wheel and sleep in haystacks. The owner of the hotel has also been known to dress up as a giant hamster to greet guests.

Highlights include a mid-air bonk interrupted when the pilot turned on the cabin lights to celebrate the dawning of the New Year, and a cabin crew that would race down the aisle on the metal dinner trays during take off.
