In an attempt to save fuel Nippon Airways has discovered a new way to lighten the load on their airplanes – getting passengers to use the washroom before they board. While there is no way to enforce the rule, the airline has employed "loo attendants" to stand at the gates and ask passengers if they need to go. The airline estimates they can save five tonnes of carbon emissions every 30 days if flyers make a wee effort.
You’ll have time to sleep when you’re dead, but at Propeller Island Hotel you can get some practice. This German Art-Hotel, located in Berlin, is not for the traveler looking for luxury comforts. Instead, coffins, caged beds and mine shafts greet the intrepid guest. Built by Lars Stroschen to fund his art projects, the hotel has become his full-time work, as videos, sculptures and other installations are built to create a mind-altering overnight experience.
A federal judge in the US has ruled that nine sham divorces, where pilots diverted more than $10 million to their ex-spouses, were legal and Continental would have to pick up the cost. The scheme worked this way: Post-divorce, the exes cashed in on retirement benefits, while their flying spouses stayed in the sky and kept earning. Some of the couples remarried after the cheques had cleared. Continental is considering an appeal.
