I'm as mad as a polar bear reading about global warming. Everywhere I look I see Canadian flags on backpacks. A maple leaf seems to be as important an item of budget travel gear as daddy's credit card, but there's one problem--many of the people flashing the good old red, white, and red aren't Canadian.

There's nothing like a racist epithet to stir up controversy and cause an international incident, and a Canadian traveller in New Zealand has done just that, by denouncing a popular Kiwi candy.

Eskimo pie is another popular treat in New Zealand. An Inuk woman travelling in that country said she was offended by the product and pointed that out to a local newspaper. In response, Tip Tap, the company that makes the ice cream pie, has said it will not change the name. |
